Toilet cleaning products can be expensive! Below are some product options that many people already have sitting around their home. These are homemade toilet cleaning solutions that will keep your toilet sparkling and your money in your pocket instead of down the drain.
For the exterior of the toilet, make a mixture of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray across the entire outside of the toilet tank, lid, seat, and base. Wipe with a cloth. Use a toothbrush and this solution to scrub crevices and bolts.
1. Flush the toilet to wet the sides of the bowl then sprinkle baking soda liberally onto the sides of your toilet bowl. Allow to sit for a few minutes and then scrub the inside with a toilet brush and flush.
You can also follow the same process with baking soda, but let it sit overnight and scrub it in the morning instead of scrubbing it the same day. The baking soda should do most of the work so the scrubbing will be light and easy!
2. Another overnight cleaning option is to pour 1/4cup borax in the bowl and let it sit overnight. In the morning, use a toilet brush to scrub and then flush.
3. Pour a 1/2cup chlorine bleach into the bowl, and let it stand for ten minutes. Then scrub with the toilet brush and flush.
Some Quirkier Options:
4. Put 2 denture cleanser tablets in the toilet and let them sit overnight. Scrub the toilet in the morning and then flush.
5. Pour a can of Coke into the toilet around the rim so it is coating the entire bowl. Let the coke sit for at least an hour, but preferably overnight. Scrub and then flush!
Not only are many of these options cheaper than store bought toilet cleaners, but many are also much better for the environment and your health. With these you know exactly what you're using, instead of a store-bought mixture of all kinds of chemicals on product label you don't understand.
If you decide to make a mixture of your own that is not listed below just remember not to mix bleach products with ammonia-based ones, and happy mixing!
